Police not allowed to see Ashutosh’s dead body; Nakodar DSP tells HC DJJS dera head is clinically dead

Chandigarh/ Jalandhar (February 05, 2014): As per certain media reports a DSP of Nakodar police today submitted a status report to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in response to a habeas corpus petition filed by a driver of dera Noormehal regarding Ashutosh.

According to Hindustan Times (HT) Nakodar DSP Harinderpal Singh Parmar today along with the medical report of controversial dera head Ashutosh making it clear that the Dera head is clinically dead.

According to Times of India (TOI) senior police officers went inside headquarters of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS), Nurmahal, on Tuesday (February 04) evening, a day after Punjab and Haryana high court sought status report from Punjab government on a habeas corpus petition about its founder Ashutosh’s health.

“They came out after spending a couple of hours without seeing the body of DJJS founder, which according to the dera management, has been moved to a freezer”, TOI has reported.

“DJJS had announced that its founder was “clinically dead” in the wee hours of January 29, but at the same time it has been maintaining that he was in “Samadhi” (meditation)” TOI news reads further.

As per Hindustan Times (HT) [a]fter considering the report, justice MMS Bedi directed the petitioner to clarify that how his petition to release Ashutosh from alleged illegal custody of dera follower is still maintainable.

The high court has now adjourned the case till the next hearing on February 11.

The HC also recalled its earlier order of February 3 and said that in view of the status report there was no need to issue notices to the Dera followers namely- Arvinda Nand, Soni, Narinder Singh and Vishala Nand- who as per the petitioner are responsible for illegal detention of sect’s head, expected to be in 70s, for usurping the Dera property.

DSP Nakodar has also cleared in its report that after visiting the spot there was no report of illegal detention of Ashutosh.

On behalf of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) one Narinder Singh told the officers that Ashutosh is in deep samadhi inside the freezer kept in the room.
