Punjab police abducted, tortured murder convict Bikramjit to death; Six cops sacked

Amritsar, Punjab (May 18, 2014): According to media reports the Batala police has dismissed 6 policemen — including three assistant sub inspectors (ASI) and three head constables — for their involvement in the abduction and murder of a jail inmate, Bikramjit Singh.

The victim, Bikramjit – a murder convict, was abducted by Punjab police personnel from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he was admitted owing to some orthopaedic problem on May 10.

A counter intelligence police team of Punjab police tortured Bikramjit to death. The city police had booked 13 persons, including 12 policemen, in the case.

Those dismissed are ASIs Sawinder Singh, Gulshanbir Singh and Baljit Singh and head constables Gupreet Singh, Jagjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh.
