New Delhi: As per media reports the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to announce its first list of candidates for the Punjab polls 2017 by the end of July 2016.

After reviewing the progress of the party’s ongoing campaign in the state, AAP finalised a plan to come up with a list for 30-35 seats (out of 117). The Tribune (TT) has quoted unnamed sources claimed to be privy to the discussions saying that the first meeting, which could be held as early as Saturday, would involve party workers at the grassroots level.

“In the four-tier selection process, the volunteers’ meeting will first come up with a pool of names (not more than 10). These will be forwarded to the Campaign Committee, which will select half of them”, notes The Tribune.

These five names, if not less, depending on the number of applicants, will then be sent to the Selection Committee to verify each candidate against the party’s ‘three C’ criterion: Of a good character with no record or taint of having indulged in corrupt practices or criminal conduct. The candidates will be finalised by the Political Affairs Committee headed by party convener Arvind Kejriwal.
