Patiala, Punjab (June 15, 2014): Punjab’s ruling party, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)’s youth wing Youth Akal Dal (YAD) is again in news-headlines, and again for disgraceful reason. As per media reports from Patiala, a Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader was arrested on the charges of sexual harassing a 21-year-old woman.
The accused who was arrested by the police on June 15 has been identified as former sarpanch Major Singh. His wife Jasbir Kaur is the incumbent Block Samiti Member of Tunga village in the district. The victim’s kin accused the police of not booking the accused for rape. Major Singh has close association with senior SAD (Badal) leaders in Nabha area and claims to be the senior vice president of YAD.
The victim alleged the accused had an affair with her on the pretext of marrying her. She alleged Major Singh blackmailed her and threatened to release video clippings of her when she stopped meeting him.
On June 12, the case was transferred to women’s cell for further investigation. Police women cell in charge Pushpa Devi said a case had been registered against Major Singh.
