Mohali/ Chandigarh: Floods turned to be mass tragedy for the people of Jammu and Kashmir this year as thousands are still strained in flood hit areas. Media reports say that 280 people have lost their lives, but the number is likely to rise as many areas of the affected region are still lying under water.

Various NGOs and social and religious groups have come forward to extend humanitarian aid to the victims of J&K floods.

Two local groups, namely GreenThinkerz and PunjabUPFilms, have set-up at camp in Mohali near Bittu Dhaba (Phase 7) to organize support and humanitarian aid for flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pardeep Singh of PunjabUpFilms told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that relief material is being airlifted from Chandigarh airport to the flood hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir daily.

“PunjabUpFilms and GreenThinkers are providing the relief material to SikhRelief volunteers who are engaged in relief work at Jammu and Kashmir” said Pardeep Singh.

“A team of our volunteers also made a visit to the flood hit areas to take an overview of the situation” he said while adding that the volunteers incurred all expenditure of their travel from their own pocket as the donations are being strictly used for purchasing the relief materials.

“We have sent 4 major consignments of relief material including rice, biscuits and other edibles, sugar, milk, drinking water and medicine” he added.
