Amritsar, Punjab (June 26, 2013): Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh has condemned the thrashing of senior Punjab IAS officer Kahan Singh Pannu by some youths in Uthrakand. He had been deputed by the state government for relief operations.
Kanwarpal Singh said Pannu deserved sympathy from one and all. The gory scenes of beating of Sardar Pannu and subsequent removal of his turban by certain Sikh youths as evident from the video put on social networking was highly disturbing and shocking. Removal of turban of a Sikh was highly condemnable and against the Sikh maryada.
He appealed to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to take serious not of it. Those who had indulged in such hooliganism, owe answer to the Khalsa Panth. If they had the moral courage, they must reveal their identities and explain to Khalsa Panth why they did so. Whenever there is disrespect to turban by either police in thanas, security forces or at international airports, Sikhs raise hue and cry and they are justified also. Similarly, disrespect to turban by Sikhs themselves was more painful and deplorable and those who had done it must repent.
He said Pannu had hinted at hidden design behind attack on him. The Badal government should probe into this conspiracy angle whose purpose seemed to be to malign and humiliate him.
