Chandigarh: A US-based couple has written to Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and asked him to reveal the contents of a judicial commission’s report on the Behbal Kalan firing-like killing of four Sikh youths in Nakodar, Jalandhar district, on February 4, 1986.
The demand by Bapu Baldev Singh and his wife Mata Baldip Kaur, the parents of one of the youths who were killed in police firing nearly 31 years ago, has come close on the heels of Amarinder announcing that the probe report on Bargari sacrilege and Behbal Kalan firing would soon be tabled in the state assembly.
Parents of Bhai Ravinder Singh Littran had earlier written a letter to Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh on July 30, 2018 demanding release of Justice Gurnam Singh’s inquiry report. In their letter Bapu Baldev Singh and Mata Baldip Kaur had appraised Punjab CM that the enquiry of police firing at Nakodar was entrusted to Justice Gurnam Singh, a retired judge of the high court. They said he completed the inquiry on March 29, 1987, but it was never made public.
Duo have against written a letter to Punjab CM reiterating their demand. Full text of the letter (copy available with Sikh Siyasat News) reads as follows:

Respected Chief Minister Punjab,
We requested in our previous letter dated 30 July 2018 to make Justice Gurnam Singh Commission report public. Now, when the Punjab Government is going to table Justice Ranjit Singh Commission regarding 2015 Bargadi Sacrilege, we would also like your government to table the Judicial Inquiry regarding 1986 Nakodar Sacrilege which Justice Gurnam Singh Commission handed over to the Punjab Government on 29 March 1987. It was ordered by the Punjab Government on 5 February 1986 while you were Agriculture Minister Punjab.
Justice Gurnam Singh Commission inquiry was regarding the following three issues that took place from 2 February 1986 to 4 February 1986 in the city of Nakodar, District Jalandhar, Punjab:
1. The desecration of five Shri Guru Granth Sahib Saroops at Shri Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara in Guru Nanak Pura Mohalla, on 2 February 1986
2. The police firing on Sherpur bridge which killed 4 sikh young-men on 4 February 1986
3. The cremation of dead bodies of four sikh young-men against the Punjab government orders
We, the parents of victim Ravinder Singh of Village Littran, District Jalandhar, Punjab are the only surviving parents and deserve to know what Justice Gurnam Singh found in his inquiry. We hereby request you and the Punjab Government to table it in the upcoming assembly session.
