SIT Want Public to Provide Information About 80 Cases of 1984 Sikh Genocide within “2 Weeks”

Chandigarh: The Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tion Team (SIT) con­sti­tuted un­der the or­der of Indian Supreme Court dated 4th De­cem­ber, 2018 in the mat­ter of S. Gurlad Singh Kahlon Vs. Union of In­dia & Ors. vide Writ Pe­ti­tion (Crl. No. 9/​2016) has in­vited the at­ten­tion of gen­eral pub­lic for seek­ing in­for­ma­tion in re­spect of 80 cases related to 1984 Sikh genocide.

A public notice available on the website of Government of India’s Ministry of Home Affairs calls upon “any per­son” in pos­ses­sion of in­for­ma­tion in re­spect of these cases to sub­mit the same in writ­ing to the SIT at its of­fice ad­dress – Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tion Team, Room No. 26, Dou­ble Storey Build­ing, Jaisalmer House, 26, Mans­ingh Road, New Delhi -110011 within 02 weeks from pub­li­ca­tion of this ad­ver­tise­ment. The notice was reportedly issued on 26 De­cem­ber 2018.

“The SIT shall scru­ti­nize the in­for­ma­tion and on find­ing the same rel­e­vant .shall send a re­quest let­ter to the per­son for ap­pear­ing be­fore the SIT for oral de­po­si­tion”, the notice reads.

“The NGOs or pub­lic spir­ited per­sons are free to help such per­son who has in­for­ma­tion in sub­mit­ting the same to the SIT. The ad­vo­cates, pub­lic spir­ited per­sons/​NGOs who in­tend to help SIT may also make re­quest in writ­ing giv­ing the de­tails of the or­ga­ni­za­tion and the in­for­ma­tion pos­sessed by them”, it reads further.
