SGGSWU to offer literature to Sikh prisoners in UK and Punjab jails

Fatehgarh Sahib: The Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU) has announced to provide Sikh religious literature to Sikh prisoners lodged in jails in United Kingdom. The varsity, owned by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), has also announced seek permission from the Punjab government to provide such literature for prisoners in Punjab jails.

The decision in this regard was taken during a meeting at the university on Friday (July 3), notes the Indian Express (IE).

Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia, vice chancellor of SGGSWU, said that the main agenda of the meeting was to discuss initiatives to make prisoners aware about the tradition, culture and history of Sikh religion.

“During my visit to the United Kingdom, members of the Sikh community of England asked me to held them in providing religious literature to the prisoners. Gagandeep Singh from Sikh Chaplaincy Service in the UK sent us a request for providing English and Punjabi religious literature to Sikh prisoners of 135 establishments”, said the vice chancellor.

The University has reportedly decided to provide biographies of Sikh Guru Sahibs and book on Sikh history, Sikh culture, values and ethics to the Sikh prisoners.
