SGPC delegation led by Makkar on Pakistan visit from today

Amritsar, Punjab (May 18, 2014): It is learnt that a seven-member delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) will cross over to Pakistan today. The delegations will be led by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar.

As per media reports the delegation will take up the issue of maintenance of historic Gurdwaras with the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC).

The SGPC delegation will also attempt to pursue PSGPC to start following amended version of the Nanakshahi Calendar.

Daljit Singh, additional SGPC secretary, said the delegation was heading to Pakistan on the invitation of the Pakistani government.

Apart from paying a visit to the historic Gurdwara Sahibs there, the delegation would hold a meeting with PSGPC representatives in which upkeep of Gurdwaras and their properties and also the issues confronting the Sikh community there would be discussed, he said, adding they would also try to convince the PSGPC to follow the amended calendar.

Prior to it, a delegation of the DSGMC recently returned from Pakistan.
