Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has joined the issue of making public the official files of Indian government related to June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib, with BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy and Central food-processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
In a press release issued on Monday (April 25) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said that army’s field guns and tanks had killed thousands of innocent Sikh devotees and demolished the Akal Takht.
“More innocent Sikhs were massacred in the 1984 Sikh genocide. If the files related to this episode are made public, people can know the entire truth,” he said.
“The Sikh nation still carries the scars of the two episodes but hasn’t received justice yet,” said Avtar Singh Makkar.
“Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, one of the prime accused in anti-Sikh riots, who claims himself to be innocent, will be exposed once the files are out”, he added.
