Mohali: Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC – ad hoc) chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda was reportedly stopped by members of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) task force from entering into Gurdwara Amb Sahib complex in January 12. Jhinda was at Mohali to hold a meeting on the issue of Sikh political prisoners.

Around 200 members of the task force reached the Gurdwara on January 12. Jagidh Singh Jhinda and leaders of other Sikh bodies such as the United Sikh Movement, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and some other Sikh organizations were scheduled to hold a meeting to chalk out the future course of action on the matter.

When the Sikh leaders tried to hold the meeting in front of the Gurdwara, the police thwarted their attempt and forced them to leave the spot.

Talking to media persons Jagdish Singh Jhinda said he supported the issue of release of Sikh detainees, but not Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who observed fast at Ambala.

Avtar Singh Makkar, SGPC president, said Jagidh SIngh Jhinda and his supporters were trying to get political mileage.

“They have no sympathy with the Sikh detainees. They only wanted to get political mileage out of the issue,” claimed Avtar Singh Makkar, adding that they would not allow them to use any SGPC Gurdwara for their activities.
