Amritsar: Martyrdom day of Khalistan movement icons and great martyrs of the Sikh nation- Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha was observed at the Akal Takhat Sahib in Amritsar yesterday. The annual event was organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

Bhog of Sri Akhand Paath Sahib was held in the memory of great martyrs of the Sikh panth at Gurdwara Jhanda Bunga Sahib at around 7 am, after which a Hazoori Ragi Jatha recited the Gurbani Kirtan. Sri Darbar Sahib Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh recited the Ardas in the memory of Bhai Harinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha.

SGPC officials, Akal Takhat Jatehdar and ruling Shiromani Akali Dal Badal leaders did not attend the event this years. It is believed that Giani Gurbachan Singh (Jathedar, Akal Takhat) preferred to say away from the samgam as he is facing massive opposition from the Sikh panth because of his decision to announce pardon for Dera Sauda Sirsa chief.

Family members of Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Satwant Singh were hornored with Siropaos during this samgam.

Speaking on the occasion Sri Darbar Sahib granth Giani Raghbir Singh said that Bhai Sukha-Jinda followed historic Sikh tradition to bring Indian army chief General Arun Vaidhya to justice as he was responsible for army attack on Darbar Sahib and other Sikh Gurdwaras in June 1984.

As compared to previous years it appeared that the SGPC concluded the samagam in haste as yesterday’s samagam was held earlier to the previous years’ timings.

Various Sikh personalities and representatives of Sikh organizations, including Bhai Daljit Singh, SGPC member Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Bhai Kanwarpal Singh Bittu, Sarbjeet Singh Ghuman, Mandhir Singh, Baldev Singh Sirsa, Balwinder Singh Jhabal and AISSF president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad were also present on this occasion.
