Chandigarh/ Punjab (February 23, 2014): It is learnt that former DGP Prisons Shashi Kant has left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He had jointed AAP just about a month back.

“Disappointed by the “inaccessibility” of Aam Admi Party (AAP) top guns, former Punjab DGP Prisons Shashi Kant has decided to part ways with the party” Times of India (TOI) has reported.

As per inforamtion Shashi Kant has conveyed his decision to the India level executive of Aam Aadmi Party on February 22.

It may be recalled that Shashi Kant was joined in AAP on January 13 and declaration in this regard was made by AAP leader Yogendra Yadav, at a press conference in Chandigarh.

Shashi Kant has recently remained in headlines for his anti-drug trafficking campaign.

According to Times of India “Shashi was seen as the right face to fight for the cause in Punjab. Now, the former DGP has accused AAP of not focusing on key issues like drugs or unemployment”.

Shashi blamed the “unresponsive” attitude of the big names in AAP to the cause of the aam aadmi for his decision.

Citing one case, he said, “In a convention of unions at Barnala I had assured workers that a teacher who had been thrashed by cops at Bathinda during the Employment Guarantee Scheme teachers’ protest in 2011 would be fielded from the seat. But no one from the party responded on this.”

On the other hand staunch leftist ideologue Dr. Sumel Singh Sidhu, who is convenor of Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab election campaign committee has rejected Shashi Kant’s accusations against the AAP as baseless.

“It is our loss. However, his accusations of our party not working against drugs in the state are baseless. Also, we do not give tickets without scrutiny as it’s against our selection procedure. He should have been kinder towards us”, he reportedly said.
