Amritsar, Punjab: Hindutva body Shiv Sena continues to create provocation for Sikhs in Punjab. As per reports activists of the Hindutva body gathered near Hall Gate in Amritsar this afternoon. They tried to burn an effigy of Sikh martyr Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Sources said that some police personnel were already present at the Hall Gate, but when Shiv Sena activists were making preparations to burn the effigy, A/DCP Parampal Singh arrived with additional police force. Meanwhile a Jatha of Sikhs led by Damdami Taksal (Ajnala faction) chief Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala also arrived there.

Sources told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that Shiv Seniks abandoned their plans and tried to flee from the scene but they were reportedly chased by the police and Sikhs. Sikhs had apprehended that fleeing Shiv Seniks may try to carryout their plans somewhere else. As per information the police arrested Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala along with some other Singhs. The police also captured two or three activists of Shiv Sena, while others were “able to flee”.

Amritsar police belonging to Civil Lines Amritsar has reportedly registered a case against Bhai Amrik Singh and others under sections 107/151 Cr.PC. (Apprehension of breach of peace and tranquillity). They were sent to Amritsar jail.

Sources said that some Sikh youth had gathered at Hall Gall after the incident and they tried to stage a protest there. They were also taken into custody by the police but were released afterwards.

It is notable that certain organizations, including Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) today marked “birth-day” of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. It is pertinent to note here that Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was not born on February 12 but SAD (Amritsar) marks his birth-anniversary on this date.
