Sikh Federation of Australia Lights Candles in Remembrance of 1984 Sikh Genocide

Melbourne (November 07, 2009) Melbourne’s Main Tourist and Public spot “Federation Square” was packed full with Sikhs when they gathered to pay homage to the Victims and Martyrs of the 1984 Sikh Genocide on November 01, 2009.  In the Candle Light Vigil organised by largest organisation of Sikhs in Australia, “Sikh Federation of Australia” many Sikhs and other residents of the Multicultural Australia came forward to light Candles. Many tourists who came to know the about the cause of the Vigil were shocked to hear the stories of Torture, Rapes, Mass Killings and Injustice.

The Sikh Federation leaders S.Daljit Singh Rana, S. Harkirat Singh Ajnoha, Interfaith Council Member S. Amarjit Singh Continously gave speeches and made the public aware of the Sikh Genocide. Other Sikh Federation leaders S.Ajit Singh South Australia, S. Ranjit Singh Shergill, S. Jaspreet Singh were also present at the Vigil. Many other organisations were present at the Vigil which included Panjab Warriors Sports and Cultural Club, Akali Dal, Kalgidhar Sports Club, Sikh Naujawan Melbourne, Sri Guru Singh Sabha Craigieburn etc.

The Vigil Continued for about 2-3 Hours and was ended with Ardaas and 2 minute Silence. It was a remarkable step on Australian Land to make the Australians Aware of the injustice happening with the World’s fifth largest religion “Sikhism” in the World’s largest democracy “India”.
