New Delhi, India (November 17, 2013): It is learnt that a Delhi court will announce its verdict in a November 1984 Sikh massacre case against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and five others on April 30, 2013. The court had reserved the order on April 03 in this matter and had fixed April 16 as the court next date. As per reports on April 16 the court declared that it shall pronounce the order in this matter on April 30, 2013.
Sajjan Kumar and five others – namely Kishan Khokkar, Balwan Khokkar, Girdhari Lal, Captain Bhagmal and Mahender Yadav, have been accused of allegedly inciting a mob to kill 5 Sikhs in Delhi cantonment area in November 1984. They have been charged with dacoity, murder, inciting violence, rioting and damaging public property.
It is notable that Sajjan Kumar and others are facing charges under ordinary law in India as “genocide” has not been defined or punished under law in India as a specific crime.
The case against Sajjan Kumar was registered in 2005 on recommendation of Nanavati Commission. Two chargesheets were filed against Sajjan Kumar and others by CBI in January 2010.
Meanwhile, according to information sent to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) by All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) victims of the Sikh Genocide 1984 protested outside the court including Babu Singh Dukhiya, Jarnail Singh, Bibi Jagdish Kaur, Gurdeep Singh Goldy, Nirpreet Kaur, Nirmal Kaur, Pappi Kaur, Darshan Kaur, Bhagi Kaur, Sattu Singh, Manpreet Singh and others.
All India Sikh Students Federation president Karnail Singh Peermohammad expressed hope that justice will prevail and guilty will be sentenced by the court.
