Sikh Gurdwara attacked in Andhra Pradesh (India)

Bijmour, Andhra Pradesh, India (October 06, 2013): According to certain media reports some miscreants attacked a Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Vijyanagram in Andhra Pradesh. The beat up the Sewadas and caused damage/harm to the Guru Granth Sahib.

As per media reports the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has condemned the incident in strong words and demanded protection and safety of the Sikh Gurdwaras in the Andhra Pardesh that is witnessing anti-Tilangana protests these days.

SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar said in a statement issued from SGPC’s Amritsar based headoffice that there was heavy damage to the Gurdwara Sahib and even the Guru Granth Sahib received the damages which was highly condemnable and the govermment must immedtaily arrest the culprits. He said even the sewadars were not spared and they had to bear the brunt of the violent mob that enetred the Gurdwara.

Avtar Singh Makker reportedly urged the centre government of India to intervene into the matter and ensure the safety of Sikhs and Sikh Gurdwara Sahibs in must be protected by enforcing the law and order situation there. He said their officials were keeping in touch with those who were in the management and they had confirmed that the miscreants attacked the gurudwara building and tried to put it on fire and the people who resisted were beaten up badly.
