Kotkapura: Sikh sangat has taken strong stance against Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village on Kotkapura to Bathinda (via Bajakhana) road. Representatives of various Sikh organizations, Sikh pracharaks and religious personalities and local Sikh sangat have reportedly blocked main chowk of Kotkapura. They are demanding strict action against culprits involved in sacrilege of saroop of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village.

It is notable that a Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was taken away from some unknown persons from Jawahar Singh Wala few months back. It was suspected that the saroop was taken away by followers of anti-Sikh dera Sauda Sirsa. Few weeks ago when politically appointed jathedars had granted pardon to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief in 2007 blasphemy case, some unknown persons (believed to be followers of dera Sirsa) had pasted a warning notice outside Gurdwara Sahib in village Jawahar Singh Wala. In this provocative poster it was said that that they would disrespect Guru Granth Sahib. Following this Ang’s of Guru Granth Sahib were found torn village Bargeri yesterday.

The Sikh Sangat held a peaceful protest at Kotkapura last evening after which the police had arrested several Sikh preachers and leaders.

As the news of arrest of Sikh pracharak Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadriyan and other Sikh leaders spread out, the Sikh Sangat from various villages started gathering at Kotkapura. In wake of outrage amongst the Sikh Sangat the administration decided to release arrested Sikh leaders.

Sources present at the spot of demonstration told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that the police have made heavy arrangements to prevent inflow of Sikh Sangat to Kotkapura town.

There are reports that the Police resorted to lathi charge at village Buttar located at Moga Barnala Road. Members of Sikh Sangat and the some police personnel reportedly received injuries in this clash.
