Sikh Struggle Sympathiser Bapu Asa Singh Passes Away at 99

Hoshiarpur: Bapu Asa Singh, a life time sympathiser of the Sikh Struggle for freedom, passed away today at the age of 99 years.

Antim Sanskar of Bapu Asa Singh will be held on this evening (Saturday, 1 July) at around 3 pm at his native village Wadala Mahi near Sham Churasi in Hoshiarpur district.

Bapu Asa Singh was one of the 10 Sikhs who were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a TADA court in 2012 in Ludhiana Bank Robbery 1987 case on the charges of conspiracy. The bank episode was one of the major incidents that had provided push to Sikh struggle for freedom after the 1984 Ghallughara.

Bapu Asa Singh and others were acquitted by the Supreme Court of India in this case on January 10, 2017.
