Sikhs in Kashmir Observe Parkash Gurpurab of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

Srinagar: Sikh sangat in Kashmir celebrated Parkash Gurpurab of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji religious fervor on Friday (June 29). Despite incessant rains Sikh devotees thronged Gurudwaras from morning to attend the Ardas.

The main function was held in Srinagar’s Rainawari at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi. Samagams were also held in other city Gurduwaras located at Amira Kadal, Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Barzulla, Rangreth, while celebrations were held across north and south Kashmir Gurduwaras including Pulwama, Baramulla, Jammu and Ladakh.

All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on the auspicious occasion greeted Sikh community of the state. The chairman APSCC Jagmohan Singh Raina termed the occasion significant for Kashmir since Guru Hargobind Ji had travelled to Kashmir in 1616.

There are Guruduwaras all across Kashmir in Hargobind ji’s memory, among them prominent being Chattipadshahi Guruduwara located at Rainwari in Srinagar, which was built in 1819.

“The landmark (Chattipadshahi) stands as a mark of peace and brotherhood,” said Jagmohan Singh Raina adding that “Guru Ji established the Akal Takth in Amritsar. This place continues to be centre of every sociopolitical activities and power for Sikh Panth”.

The remaining parts of Jammu region will celebrate the occasion on 5th July.
