Simranjit Singh Mann moves High Court seeking quashing of sedition FIR

Chandigarh: Former MP and president of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) president, S. Simranjit Singh Mann, has knocked at the doors of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking quashing of an FIR, under which, he has been charged with sedition and alleged unlawful activities.

It may be recalled that an FIR was registered against organisers of the Sarbat Khalsa 2015 at Chattiwind police station in relation to November 10 event at Chabba village in Tarn Taran district. (check copy of the FIR).

In his petition, the SAD (Mann) president has maintained that the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as the Supreme Court of India have already cleared that the mere demand for Khalistan is no offence.

He maintained that even the Punjab government has stated that demand for Khalistan as such is no offence and he, along with others, has been falsely implicated in this case.

S. Mann said that the right to assemble and to express ones view is fundamental right and no offence can be said to have committed of sedition and other charges slapped in the FIR.

S. Mann’s counsel Ranjan Lakhanpal said that Mann has been victimised by the present Punjab government due to political differences. The petition is yet to come up for hearing.
