Talkshow with Prof. Joga Singh by Jagtar Singh Jhanduke | Sikh Siyasat Talkshow

Jagtar Singh Jhanduke, a Ph. D fellow of the Department of Education, Punjabi University (Patiala) talked to Prof. Joga Singh about situation of various languages in India, Linguistics policy of India and related issues.

Prof. Joga Singh said that Languages in India were not recognized in accordance with linguistic norms, rather the politics played it’s part in this matter and many languages were not recognized in their independent form. Such languages were merely declared as sub-forms of Hindi. For example as per linguistic parameters Bhojpuri was an independent language but it was declared as a sub-form of Hindi.

On the other hand many sub-forms were declared as independent languages due to political reasons which led to the loss of parent/main languages. For example as per linguistic parameters Dogri was a sub-form of Punjabi but it was declared an independent language.

Other related issues were also discussed in detail.
