Khadur Sahib, Punjab (December 08, 2013): According to infromation sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) by Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Nishan-e-Sikhi (Khadur Sahib) [t]enth yearly high level event against HIV-AIDS and social evils held, today, at Sri Guru Angad Dev College to mark World AIDS Day, during which thousands of students studying in various educational institutes managed under Kaar Sewa Khadur Sahib, vowed to shun drugs and social evils which lead to the deadly disease.
A special seminar was conducted under this event which was addressed by various renowned personalities and experts on the subject.
While addressing, the head of Kaar Sewa Baba Sewa Singh said, “Everyone should make efforts to form a society sans drug addiction and social evils for the cause of Human welfare.”
“Present young generation who is our progeny, should follow way of life taught by Gurus and work for the peace and prosperity in the world”, he added.
Delivering keynote address, renowned global activist against HIV-AIDS Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains said, “HIV-AIDS is deadly disease that spreads all over the world as a result of flash trading and drug addiction.
Putting light on the figures in this regard, he said, “Approximately 4.5 crores people are in the grip of this disease and in Punjab, 36778 people are fighting with this according to the official figures but actual figures are more horrible than this.”
Dr. Bains further said preachers, government and non-government agencies and socio-religious groups to spread awareness by conducting seminars, conferences and using Internet.
Dr. Gurpal Singh Civil surgeon Tarn Taran said, “Our young generation must respect their rich heritage for the betterment of the community. He gave assurance to treat the victims of AIDS belonging to area within his jurisdiction.”
Dr. Narinder Singh, Senior Medical Officer Khadur sahib, put light on the reasons of AIDS and measures to curb this deadly disease.
Activists of Yaad Foundation also provide valuable information regarding HIV-AIDS.
College principal Dr. Surinder Bangar also presented his views and Director Gurdial Singh Gill thanked to the participants.
