Chandigarh/ Punjab (July 14, 2014): Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Badal reportedly said that he would lead a Sikh delegation to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee to “unmask the conspiracy” allegedly hatched by Congress party to divide the Sikhs by trying to create a separate SGPC in Haryana.

In a statement, the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister said the Sikh delegation, which would meet the Indian President soon, would give details of the conspiracy hatched by Congress and unequivocally demand that no one should be allowed to interfere in the internal affairs of the Sikhs.

He said the Sikh delegation would apprise the President of the “anti-Sikhs designs” of the Congress party.

It is notable that Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) is a staturoy body responsible for managing affairs of historic Sikh Gurdwaras (SGPC). Certain Sikh groups in Haryana were demandin seperate SGPC for the state. The SGPC failed to address the concerns of Sikhs Haryana, which further strengthen the demand for a seperate body.

SGPC is currently under exclusive control of Badal clan led Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
