Three held for Sonipat acid attack

Rohtak, Haryana (October 09, 2013): According to media reports [a]fter a two day chase, police finally caught three persons in the acid attack on a Sikh family of three at Shiv Colony of Sonepat town on Monday (Oct. 07) night.

The accused have reportedly been identified as Darshan Singh, Gurjant Singh and Ranbir Singh(in thirtees), all residents of Kaithal district.

According to a news reported by Hindustan Times (HT): [o]ne of the accused Darshan Singh, a resident of Gula Chika, used to love on Karmjit Kaur, who continued his one side liking for her after after her marriage. Notably, Baldev Singh, Karamjit Kaur and their seven month old daughter Khushpree Kaur were attacked on Sunday morning, when they were asleep in their rented accommodation at the said location.

Police said that upon investigation, it was learnt that Darshan along with his two accomplices had been harassing Kaur for having relationship with him despite her marital status. Darshan Singh too was married and had children, but his desperation for victim did not alter with time. Police said in a bid to teach her a lesson for turning down his offer, Darshan with two others reached Sonepat on Saturday night.

After finding a suitable time on Sunday morning, they allegedly throw acid on her family from the window and escaped in the thickness of darkness.

Based on the suspicion by Baldev Singh, police arrested the accused from Gohana road of Sonepat district, when trio were preparation to flee from Sonepat.

Accused confessed that he committed crime to settle revenge on victim.

Here, doctors at Rohtak medical college, operating on the family of Baldev Singh said that chances of Karamjit Kaur regaining her eyesight after the incident are very bleak.
