Bathinda: Addressing a press conference at Bathinda on Sept. 16, United Akali Dal (UAD) leader Gurdeep Singh Bathinda accused the Punjab police of torturing UAD leader Bhai Chamkaur Singh (Bhai Rupa) in custody.

Accompanied by Chamkaur Singh Bhai Rupa and other UAD leaders and local Sikh leaders, Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said that CIA staff Fairdkot incharge Shinder Singh, Guru Har Sahai DSP Sulakhan Singh and inspector Jagdish Kumar had taken Chamkaur Singh Bhai Rupa into custody few days back. He said that one Sawaran Singh Laddi was also taken into custody by the police.

UAD leader said that Chamkaur Singh and Swaran Singh were tortured in the police custody and they were given electric shocks on sensitive body parts such as ears and private parts.

Gurdeep Singh Bathinda maintained that the police were pressing them to name some Sikh leaders in Jawahar Singh Wala case related to theft of a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib.

Demanding strict action against concerned police officials, UAD leader announced to hold a protest outside Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal’s residence on September 25.

“The the government fails to take action against police officials involved in custodial torture of Bhai Chamkaur Singh and Swaran Singh, the UAD would surround Punjab CM’s residence in protest on September 25”, said he.
