Chandigarh: As per the media reports, United Akali Dal (UAD) led by Bhai Mohkam Singh has decided to contest Punjab assembly elections on its symbol on 10 assembly seats.

It would also forge alliances with other political parties for other seats, and are waiting to get a poll symbol from the Election Commission Of India.

“We may have alliance with AAP or some other political parties working sincerely for the welfare of Punjab”, UAD president Mokham Singh told Sikh Siyasat News  (SSN) over phone.

He further maintained that their issues are protecting Punjab’s river waters, bringing perpetrators of incidents of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib to books, and eradicating drugs and unemployment.

“Ours is a new party and our capacities are limited so we would contest only on 7 to 10 Seats.  We have alliance with SAD (Amritsar) and we are open to alliance with AAP.  We have applied for the election symbol from ECI”, he added.

Furthermore the UAD President while talking to Times of India (TOI) reportedly said that they had announced their candidates on seven seats so far including:

Majitha assembly constituency where UAD candidate Paramjit Singh Jejeani would contest against SAD (Badal) minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Congress candidate Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lali Majithia and Himmat Singh Shergill of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

UAD chief said that they were contemplating forging alliance with other political parties not to contest on other assembly seats, the names for remaining three candidates would follow soon, he further said.
