New York, NY: A newsletter by the Sikh Coalition says [i]n September 2014, the Sikh Coalition hosted two large-scale community events in support of our work – the Bay Area 5K for the 5Ks and the New York City Bowl-a-thon. Each event provided an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate the progress of Sikhs in America and commit ourselves to a brighter future for generations to come.

Both these events were immensely successful. On September 7, 2014, at the NYC Bowl-a-thon, 256 bowlers and over 200 cheerleaders joined together to raise over $65,000 and enjoyed a fun-filled evening with actor and entrepreneur Waris Ahluwalia. On September 20, 2014 over 250 participants attended the Bay Area 5K for the 5Ks and raised over $51,000.

We are truly grateful for the sangat’s efforts and commitment to further this work. Sapreet Kaur, Executive Director of the Sikh Coalition, said, “Both events embodied the incredible sangat we have and energized the start line to our crucial end of the year fundraising campaign. The support we received on both coasts inspires us to work harder than ever before and that’s why we have set the goal of raising one million dollars together by the end of this year. The Sikh Coalition must continue to evolve to support the needs of our ever growing community and with your support we’re committed to reaching that goal.”

The Sikh Coalition has also extended thanks to all of the volunteers who led the efforts to put these events together.

“It is because of dedicated sevadaars that we can continue this work to create a Sikh-friendly country for generations to come” said the Sikh Coalition in it’t newsletter.
