What led to bail for Prof. Bhullar in Batala TADA court?

Amritsar/ Ludhiana: Sikh Political Prisoner Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar was granted bail in a 23 years old TADA case earlier today. Prof. Bhullar has been in confinement since 1995 and he was recently shifted to Amritsar from Delhi.

A 1992 TADA case was recently opened against Prof. DPS Bhullar by Punjab police.

Prof. Bhullar’s council Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that Prof. Bhullar was granted regular bail on four major ground by court of designated TADA judge Surinder Singh Sahni.

“Firstly there was delay of 21 years on the part of prosecution to initiate proceedings in this case or even present the chargesheet. Secondly there was no recovery of any arms or explosives from Prof. Bhullar in this case. Thirdly there were no direct evidence of occurrence and the case is based only on circumstantial witnesses. Fourth ground in which TADA judge based his decision to grant bail was that Prof. Bhullar’s medical report has showed partial improvement and for further treatment he needs homely environment”, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) in a written communication.

“The court is scheduled to hear arguments on chargesheet on March 19” said Advocate Manjhpur.

He said that the bail bond, as required by the court, will be furnished soon. He said that Prof. Bhullar may now apply for parole.
