Nagpur: As per the media reports Mohan Bhagwat the chief of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) which is considered as fountain head of ‘pro-hindutva’ politics in the sub-continent here on Saturday stated that that “necessary constitutional amendments” will have to be made by dubbing those amendments as for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be “completely assimilated” with the rest of the country.

It is widely belived that by his statement Mohan Bhagwat gave an implicit impresstion to get the article 370 & 35 (a) abrogated which has for long provided special status to Kashmir. It has also protected Kashmiris against demographic alteration which the pro-hindutva elements in power often times use to reduce the indigenous people to minority in their own homeland and suppress their independent cultural identity.

“Necessary constitutional amendments will have to be made and old provisions will have to be changed in that state, RSS chief reportedly said.

“Then and then only the residents of Jammu and Kashmir can be completely assimilated with rest of Bharat and their equal cooperation and share will be possible in the national progress.”

Additionally, the Supreme Court of India is also hearing a plea demanding repeal of Article 35A, which allows the state legislature to define “permanent residents”. Hindutva organisations have called it discriminatory.

Kashmir-based parties such as the PDP and the National Conference are against any change in the special provisions granted to the state by the Constitution.

The Sangh chief claimed that there was an urgent need to take the benefits of development to the people of entire J&K, including the Jammu and Ladakh regions, without any discrimination and through transparent and clean governance, reports the Economic Times (ET).
