AAP likely to sack Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur over cash-pocket video: media reports

Chandigarh: As per media reports the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s central leadership was planning to sack its Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chottepur after a video surfaced purportedly showing him accepting money from a party volunteer. Media reports have quoted unnamed party sources said AAP may not only remove him from the post but also expel him from the party.

“Punjab AAP’s legal cell chief Himmat Singh Shergill, a close associate of state affairs incharge Sanjay Singh and organisation building head Durgesh Pathak, is likely to be handed over the reigns of the state unit”, notes a report in the Indian Express (IE).

Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was cornered in the AAP during distribution of the party tickets for upcoming elections, has denied allegations of corruption. He said that he accepted the “party fund” and dared the AAP leadership to make the video clip public to prove it was corruption.

According to Hindustan Times (HT), Chhotepur did not dispute the authenticity of either, but said the contents did not prove any wrongdoing by him. The audio clip is available on social media, but the video clip is under wraps and been shown only to a few senior leaders of the party.

On the video, he said it was made only to embarrass him. “A party supporter met me on the day party convener Arvind Kejriwal had come for a court hearing in Amritsar (on July 29). He was referred to me by two senior party leaders. He talked about general things and then tried to hand me a packet which he said was fund for the party. I refused to take it. But, while leaving, he left it on my suitcase, which I did not realise,” HT quotes Chhotepur.
