Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sukhpal Khaira was suspended from Punjab state assembly for the remaining budget session after he broadcast a Facebook video live from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Sukhpal Khaira had broadcast the video while Punjab state assembly was adjourned. The video was reshared over Facebook for more than 6 thousand times with in 24 hours.
In this live video Sukhpal Khaira said that he wanted to show the drama being played by opposition SAD (Badal) and ruling Congress party in the state assembly. He said the assembly did not even met the standard of a village Panchayat. In this live video some Congress leaders were seen as asking him that he could not live stream the video from Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Kahira was seen as offering the explanation that the house was adjourned.
Assembly Speaker Rana K.P. Singh asked the assembly marshalls to confiscate the mobile phone of Sukhpal Khaira and ordered his suspension.
Opposing his suspension Sukhpal Khaira said “[b]y unilaterally suspending me for the remaining session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Speaker has only exposed himself to be a minion and a convenient hand tool of the Congress government”.
He said that in previous Vidhan Sabha, Charanjeet Singh Channi, who was then leader of opposition had shot his speech live from the last Vidhan Sabha but that was not treated as ‘breach of privilege’.
