Amritsar, Punjab (Febraury 24, 2014): It is learnt that Akal Takht Sahib, on February 17, honoured Bhai Gurmej Singh (former Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, Amritsar) with the title of ‘Sikh Ratan’.
Historian Dr. Kirpal Singh with honored with ‘National Professor of Sikhism’ and Late Ragi Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi was posthumously honored with ‘Shiromani Ragi’ award.
As per information a brief cerimoney was held at Akal Takht Sahib. Speaking on the occasion Giani Gurbachan Singh Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, reportedly said: “while Akal Takht Sahib awards religious punishment to Sikh persons accused of misinterpreting Gurbani and misinforming Sikh history, it also honours the Sikh personalities for their contribution in spreading Sikhi and researching Sikh history.”
Putting light on the contributions of the Sikh personalities who were honoured, Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “Bhai Gurmej Singh Ragi has not only served the panth, but also transcribed Gurbani into script to be read by blind persons. Renowned Sikh historian Dr. Kirpal Singh does valuable research on Sikh history as a project of Sikh Source Historical Granth Sampadna Project.”
