Amit Shah may be the next BJP president, media reports

New Delhi, India (June 26, 2014): An accused in the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case and a close aide of Indian Prime Minister Narendera Modi, Amit Shah may be named the next president of saffron party Bharatiya Janata Party, said various media reports. He is general secretary of the party.

Amit Shah will succeed Rajnath Singh, now the Home Minister in the Narendra Modi government.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh senior leadership met in Chittor, Rajasthan, on Wednesday to discuss the issue. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s decision will be considered final, added the reports.

Besides Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party general secretaries Jagat Prakash Nadda (Himachal Pradesh) and P Muralidhar Rao (Andhra Pradesh), and party leader Om Mathur (Rajasthan) were considered for the post.

A section of BJP leaders acknowledge his contribution in ensuring a huge number of Lok Sabha seats for the party in the 2014 General Elections.
