New Delhi, India (August 16, 2014): After elections victory in Lok Sabha elections and ahead of elections in four states, newly appointed President of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Amit Shah on August 16 announced his new team. The list that was announced by BJP head comprises names of 11 Vice Presidents, 8 general secretaries and 14 secretaries.
The announcement of the new team assumes significance in light of several upcoming state-level elections. Amit Shah, who is a close and controversial aide of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was appointed to the top post in BJP at a meeting of Parliamentary Board where incumbent Rajnath Singh resigned after a tenure of one-and-a-half years.
He is credited by BJP for delivering crucial Uttar Pradesh election victory to BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, was on July 9 appointed party president. BJP had secured 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh is due for by-elections on 12 state assembly seats. It is significant to note that Uttar Pradesh has recorded more than 600 incident of communal violance since the formation of BJP government in India.
