Delhi HC orders INLD leader OP Chautala to surrender on Oct. 11

New Delhi/ Haryana: Banning former Haryana chief minister O P Chautala from any kind of campaigning, the Delhi High Court Friday gave him 24 hours to surrender and go back to jail.

“There is a Rubicon that must not be crossed…am pained and disappointed at his conduct. Dignity and decorum of courts has to be maintained. We can’t turn bail on medical grounds into a carnival. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done,” Justice Sidhharth Mridul observed, rejecting last ditch attempts by Chautala’s legal team of veteran lawyers Ram Jethmalani and R K Anand to postpone surrender till Monday.

Chautala, who was present in court with his team of supporters, at one point of time stood up to plead he be allowed to remain at the hospital but Justice Mridul remained firm, saying “You surrender tomorrow. Let’s not bargain over this.”
