EU Parliament conference to discuss Human rights-death penalty in India and Bhullar-Rajoana issue today

Brussels (June 25, 2013): A conference in the European Parliament in Brussels on the Death Penalty and Human Rights abuses in India is schedled to be held today (on June 25, 2013). Bhai Amrik Singh, the Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that ‘[t]he conference is taking place in the Paul Henri Spaak Building in the European Parliament in Brussels. Politicians from across Europe have a crucial role to play in acting as a catalyst for change in the Indian judiciary’s use of the death penalty and ensuring human rights are protected.’

It is learnt that “June 1984 Sikh genocide and mass human rights abuses in Punjab by Indian authorities” and “November 1984 massacre of innocent Sikhs” shall be discussed in Session 1.

Whereas in Session 3 the participants shall be discussing the issue of “Death Penalty in India (including Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and Balwant Singh Rajoana)”.

“On-going human rights abuses of the Sikhs”, and the “true face of Indian democracy – Indian politicians facing criminal charges and failures in the India’s judicial system” is expected to be deabted in Session 3.

The issue of “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied: Self-determination for the Sikhs” and “Identity discrimination and denial of human rights in different European countries” shall be discussed in Session 4 that shall be followed by “Conclusion and conference resolutions”.

According to information shared by the Sikh Federation UK, the speakers to the conference will include: Dabinderjit Singh, Sukhvinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Jaspal Singh, Gurmel Singh and Harjinder Singh (all belonging to the Sikh Federation – UK) and Kuldip Kaur from Germany.

MEPs to mention, who will be participating in this conference are Bill Newton Dunn – member of the India Delegation – who will open the conference, Glenis Wilmott (the two hosts – East Midlands MEPs), Jean Lambert MEP – Chair South Asia Delegation, Vice-President of the European Parliament Edward McMillan-Scott will also speak, Sajjad Karim MEP, German MEPs – Udo Bullman, Jutta Steinruck, Bernd Lange and Birgit Sippel.

Others to mention who are attending the conference are Talvinder Singh – Chair Sikh Federation (Italy); Harwant Singh Daduwal – President National Dharam Parchar Committee, Italy; Sukhvinder Singh – General Secretary Sikh Federation International (Germany) and Avtar Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Jatindervir Singh, Resham Singh from Germany; Jagdish Singh Bhura and Rajinder Singh from Belgium; Gurdial Singh, Raghbir Singh and Kasmir Singh from France; Gursev Singh, Manpreet Kaur and Kawal Kaur from Holland.
