Amritsar, Punjab (June 15, 2014): According to media reports Jathedars Five Sikh Takhats are going to hold a meeting at Amritsar on June 15.

The Tribune (TT) has quoted unnamed sources saying that the Jathedars may discuss the violent clash that witnessed violation of ‘maryada’ at the Akal Takhat Sahib. However, any decision on this would come only after the SGPC probe panel submits its report.

Talking to The Tribune (TT), Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh reportedly said though they would not take any decision regarding the incident, they would certainly deliberate on the ways to avert such incidents in future. He said “routine matters” would be discussed during the meeting.

Besides, the issue of Nanakshahi Calendar is back in the limelight with Sikhs in Pakistan observing the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Ji twice for the second consecutive year in accordance with original Nanakshahi Calendar. The SGPC and the DSGMC had not sent their jathas to Pakistan after the Pakistan High Commission denied visas to their Jathas, as SGPC was attempting to hold separate Shaheedi Samagam to mark martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Ji as per amended version of Nankshahi Calendar.

The issue of violent clash at Takht Sri Patna Sahib on January 7 is also pending before the Takht. During the last meeting of Jathedars, the superintendent of Takht Sri Patna Sahib had met the Jathedars and appealed them not to invite Takht Sri Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh in their meetings in view of his dismissal.
