Chandigarh: As per media reports, the Ministry of External Affairs- Government of India, has offered explanation on the case of arrested Scottish citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi. According to a news reported by The Tribune (TT) the MEA claimed that “[l]egal processes are being followed in the case of British national Jagtar Singh Johal”.

Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) tried to find that if MEA officially issued any statement yesterday (Dec. 8) in this regard but no such statement was found on Government of India’s Public Information Bureau’s website.

According to The Tribune (TT), in response to a query, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said: “He is being investigated for some very serious crimes, including plans to kill certain individuals in India. All due processes are being followed. Since he is a British national, we have allowed consular access to UK High Commission officials.”

The MEA explanation, in form of a media report, came at a time when Indian media aired some video clips claiming those to be ‘confessional statements’ of Jagtar Singh Jaggi. Whereas some many Indian TV channels claimed that the tapes under their “exclusive” access, a TV channel named “Aaj Tak” attributed these clips/tapes to India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Jagtar Singh Jaggi’s defence council has strongly reacted to these TV reporting while claiming that Indian Agencies and Media have hatched a conspiracy to hold ‘media trial’ of Jagtar Singh Jaggi in order to tarnish his image and counter the wave of sympathy for Jagtar Singh Johal.
