Jurupa valley Gurdwara graffiti incident ‘unfortunate’ : American Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee

Washington, US (August 01, 2013): The Sikh leaders in the US and American Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has termed the spraying of wall that surrounds a Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in Jurupa Valley with the word `terrorist’ as an unfortunate incident.

As per a news reported by the Punjab News Line (PNL): ASGPC President J. S. Hothi, Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh and Sikh political activist Harpreet Singh said they were in touch with federal authorities through American Sikh Congressional Caucus and hope the culprit will be punished.

“The Sikh leaders termed the incident as part of the `hate crime’ as the graffiti has been written on the walls twice. Earlier also there had been incidents like these when the Sikhs are mistaken as Arabs and become the victims of the `hate crime’, especially after the 9/11 terror attack in the United State”, reads the PNL news report.

that on the late night of July 29th, 2013 the Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh congregational place of worship) in Riverside, CA was vandalized in an apparent hate crime. The word ‘terrorist’ was spray painted around the complex.

The Sikh leaders meanwhile stated that the Co chair of the American Sikh Caucus Judy Chu and David Valadao had already initiated major campaign to educate the public about their religion.

“We are thankful to Congress person Judy Chu and Congress man David Valado for carrying awareness campaign and they would doing more in the future to check such incidents of hate crime”, Dr. Pritpal Singh reportedly stated.
