Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’ central council member Pavitar Singh on Tuesday alleged that party Delhi MLA and Punjab affairs co-incharge Jarnail Singh had gathered “unaccounted for” party funds prior to the 2015 Delhi assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Pavitar, accompanied by NRI Harpal Singh, said he had deposited a cheque for Rs 1 lakh in Jarnail’s bank account in January 2015. “The money was supposed to be for the party.
He kept demanding cash but we insisted on paying in cheque. Finally, he gave an account number which we later found was his personal and not of the party,” said Pavitar showing details of the transaction.
Pavitar added that he was never given receipt for the amount he donated.
Responding to the allegations, MLA Jarnail Singh issued a statement on Wednesday in which he refuted the charges leveled by Pavitar Singh against him. In a press statement Jarnail Singh said that the frivolous charges of Pavitar Singh are the result of the frustration of our political opponents who are being exposed by him from political stages.
Jarnail Said that the strategy of opposition parties dividing AAP into Delhi vs. Punjab shattered after his elevation as Co-Incharge of AAP Punjab. So the opponents choose this way to malign his image. He asked why Pavitar Singh didn’t ask the issue earlier and why only after being denied the party ticket.
Jarnail said that he is a dedicated soldier of Aam Aadmi Party and will continue his work to strengthen the party in Punjab. He is ready to face such attacks in future as well just to save Punjab from the clutches of corrupt parties.
