Police arrest Human rights activist Gautam Navlakha, Sikh leaders in Srinagar

Srinagar: A news reported by Kashmir Media Service (KMS) says [i]n occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested a noted Indian human rights activist, Gautam Navlakha and three Sikh leaders from a hotel in Srinagar.

Gautam Navlakha and Sikh leaders were in Srinagar to participate in a seminar organized by the forum patronized by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, at Hyderpora. However, the seminar was banned by the authorities and nobody was allowed to reach the venue.

“We have detained Gautam and some Sikh leaders to prevent them from reaching Hyderpora,” a police official confirmed.

Police also arrested many Hurriyet activists on the Airport Road as they were proceeding towards Gilani’s residence. They included Syed Imtiyaz Hyder, Bashir Andrabi and others.

Arrested Sikh leaders include Advo. Harpal Singh Cheema (Panch Pardhani), S. Kanwar Pal Singh and Dr. Manjinder Singh Jandi (Dal Khalsa).


Update: Arrested leaders were reportedly released in the afternoon, after the scheduled time for the seminar ended.
