Report alleges misuse of law against Sikh leader in Punjab

Jalandhar (March 18, 2011): A report on arrest and detention of Sikh leader Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu, Chairman of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) has alleged the misuse of law and legal process. Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur Spokesman of Youth Dal (Panch Pardhani), accompanied by Rajwinder Singh Raju and Sikh Students Federation President Parmjeet Singh Gazi; released the report today during a press conference held at Press club.

The eight page report provides details various cases of Bhai Daljeet Singh and other leaders and workers of Panch Pardhani.

“Punjab police is working to serve political ends of ruling regime of Punjab and black laws like Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, are invoked without legal or evidential base” claimed Manjhpur.

“Legal monetary transfers, such as payment of legal counseling fees to Advocates, payment to newspaper representatives for general newspaper advertisements, payment of school fees of orphans, through authorized banks is termed as “unlawful activities” by the prosecution” he added.
