RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat under fire for ‘Hindutva’ statement

New Delhi, India (August 11, 2014): RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is currently facing the ire of politicians from across the country for his ‘Hindutva’ comment. Bhagwat on Sunday said that ‘cultural identity of all inhabitants of this country is Hindutva.’

He even went on to say that Hindutva was a way of life and that Hindus could be of any religion worshipping any God or not worshipping at all. This comment didn’t go down well with many across the political fraternity who slammed Bhagwat for the same.

Meanwhile Congress on Monday sharpened its attack on Bhagwat saying that the ‘RSS must read the Constitution.’ “India is a multi cultural country,” Congress leader Manish Tewari said. Tewari added that Mohan Bhagwat must read the Constitution. “Words used by the framers of Constitution were India/ Bharat and not Hindustan.” he said.

On the other hand, the Shiv Sena welcomed Bhagwat’s statement saying: “Hindu is a culture and tradition, we welcome Mohan Bhagwat’s statement.”

Since the formation of Narendra Modi led government in India, the RSS has sharpened it’s offensive against religious, cultural and ethnic minorities/ identities in India.

Few days back he had claimed that RSS do not recognize Sikh religion as a distinct religion.
