Chandigarh: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) adnd former minister Ajit Singh Kohar on Sunday died of cardiac arrest at Jalandhar. He was 81 years of age.
Dr Charanjit Pruthi who attended him reportedly said that, Ajit Singh Kohar died of heart failure. “He was dead by the time he was brought here,” Dr Pruthi further added.
Whilst interacting with the media Ajit Singh Kohar’s private secretary Lakhvir Singh who was with him during his last hours, said Ajit Singh Kohar had dinner with the family at around 9.30 pm and went to his room. A few minutes later, he came out and complained of uneasiness. He was rushed to the local Pruthi hospital but his condition deteriorated on the way, he added to his statement.
“He was provided medical help en route by two doctors accompanying him in the 108 ambulance. He struggled for over 45 minutes but could not survive.”
Ajit Singh Kohar remained Minister for Transport in the Badal-BJP alliance government in the state from 2007-2012. Currently he was Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shakot constituency.
The cremation is likely to be held on Tuesday, notes The Tribune (TT).
