Scottish Parliament members cut across party lines to demand public inquiry into UK links with June 1984 attack on Sikhs

London, United Kingdom (May 15, 2014): A motion lodged at the start of this week in the Scottish Parliament has already received cross party support from 23 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) on the 30th anniversary of Operation Blue Star.

The motion refers to the ‘massacre of countless Sikhs’ and acknowledges British foreknowledge of and involvement in the planning of the operation. It also notes calls across the UK for transparency through a public inquiry.

Bhai Amrik Singh, the Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK), said:

‘We are delighted Members of the Scottish Parliament have joined our campaign for truth and justice.’

‘Over 150 UK politicians from a dozen political parties representing millions of voters in every part of the UK have now confirmed support for an independent public inquiry.’

‘Every day the UK Government delays announcing an independent public inquiry is rubbing salt into the wounds of British Sikh victims who lost loved ones.’
