Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa shifted to Hassanpur amidst tight security

Chandigarh/ Ludhiana: Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, who has been on hunger strike since January 16 demanding the release of Sikh political prisoners, was discharged from PGI yesterday evening. He had been admitted to DMC Hero Heart institute in Ludhiana earlier this month from where he was shifted to PGI on June 18 after his health condition reportedly deteriorated.

Doctors at PGI reportedly said that Surat Singh Khalsa was discharged from PGI as his condition was stable now.

According to police officials at the PGI police post, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa was taken away in a ambulance by his family members with a Punjab police escort.

Jagraon SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar, who led the police party to take Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa to his home at village Hassanpur, said: “As per doctors at PGI, Surat Singh Khalsa has not had sufficient intake of nutrition and he needs to be fed orally”.

“A team of health officials inluding a doctor and para-medical staff from Mohali Civil hospital took him to his home in an ambulance” the SSP added.

Bandi Singhs Rihai Sangharsh Committee leader Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said: “Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is on fast and told the doctors what he would not take food or nutrition”.

He maintained that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has declared to go with the committee’s decision about medical aid like glucose drips. He said that the committee had decided against the medical aid and soon after Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa was taken away from PGI.
