Faridkot: A criminal complaint has been filed in the police firing incident of October 14, 2015, in which two Sikhs were killed by a Punjab police party that had opened fire on a Sikh gathering who were holding a peaceful demonstration at village Behbal Kalan (near Kotkapura) against Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib.

Resham Singh, a brother of one of the deceased, Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh, reportedly filed the complaint in the court of Faridkot’s Judicial Magistrate Ist Class on Thursday (Feb. 09).

“Resham Singh has demanded legal action against the then Moga SSP Charanjit Sharma, the then Faridkot SP Bikramjit Singh and the then SHO Bajakhana Amarjit Singh Kular”, notes The Tribune (TT).

In his statement recorded with the court on Feb. 09, Resham Singh told the court that his brother Krishan Bhagwan Singh of Behbal Khurd village and Gurjit Singh of Sarawan village were killed in the police firing. He alleged the police opened fire on the orders of Charanjit Sharma, Bikramjit Singh and Amarjit Kular.

He reportedly told the court that the unprovoked police firing was started on peaceful protesters without any reason. These protesters were sitting on a dharna against beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Resham Singh also told the court that two FIRs were registered in incident at the Bajakhana police station on October 14 and 21, 2015. However, even 16 months later neither any accused police personnel had been named nor the police had taken any action against the accused, he said.

The court has adjourned the case for March 18 to record the statement of other witnesses in this case.

The Behbal Kalan police firing incident was probed by government appointed Justice Zora Singh Commission and also by People’s Commission led by former Supreme Court judge justice Markandey Katju on the request of various Human Rights bodies. Both the commissions have blamed the police for the incident.

The Punjab government led by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) did not recognise the People’s commission and it did not even took any action on Justice Zora Singh Commission’s report.
