It may be recalled that Bhai Shamsher Singh along with two others – Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha and Gurmeet Singh was released on parole from Burrail Jail last month after a Sikh activist from Haryana launched indefinite hunger strike seeking their release.

These Sikh political prisoners were being denied parole or permanent release despite having spent 18 years in prison. But in wake of struggle launched by Gurbaksh Singh Khasla they were granted 28 days parole.

It is notable that Bhai Shamsher Singh was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for life in Punjab CM Beant Singh’s assassination (1995) case. It must be remembered that Punjab CM Beant Singh’s regime (1992-95) had unleashed the region of state terror on the civilian Sikh population. His assassination was act motivated by existential concerns of the Sikh nation.

Bhai Shamsher Singh was accompanied by his family members during his visit to Darbar Sahib, the central place of Sikh religion.
